Presenter Spotlight: Heather Nowicki

Heather Nowicki is currently a Visiting Lecturer of American Sign Language at Brown University and started her third year. Prior to moving and residing in Massachusetts, Heather was adjunct faculty at Columbia College Chicago for ten years. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and holds a Master degree in Sign Language Education from Gallaudet University. Heather currently has 15+ years of experience teaching all levels of ASL, with specialties including Fingerspelling, Numbers in ASL and Classifiers. She is an enthusiastic and motivating instructor with a suitcase full of tools and ideas to help facilitate learners’ growth in American Sign Language. “Signs are to Eyes what Words are to Ears.”

American Sign Language Workshop Series
Presenter Spotlight: Dean Papalia

Dean Papalia is the Chair of the American Sign Language Department and teaches ASL 1 to 4 levels, Medical signing, Immersion and Deaf Literature at the Saint Francis University in central- western Pennsylvania. He also developed ASL curriculum and taught K-12 as well for nearly 15 years. In addition, Dean created the schools’ ASL National Honor Society and ASL Club. He currently serves as the President of the Bay Area (California) American Sign Language Teacher Association. He earned his Master’s degree in Sign Language Education from Gallaudet University.
