Job Description & Application

Job Title: Advocate (35 hours a week, Hybrid, serving the Greater Boston Region)

Competitive Pay: $1,500 sign-on bonus and relocation costs included!

Summary:
Provides direct services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults and seniors to achieve their goals, build skills, and expand abilities and knowledge for success, and to increase awareness, information, and access in the community.

What we are looking for:

     - Desire to empower, share knowledge, and see others learn and grow

     - Highly reliable self-starter with attention to detail, problem solver, and ability to follow-through

     - Strong interpersonal skills, sensitivity, empathy, diplomacy, professionalism, and a positive attitude

Key Duties:

     - Manage a reasonable caseload of Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults and communicate using ASL and/or English

     - Provide direct services including intake, peer counseling, advocacy, skills training, and information and referral

     - Support individuals to complete various applications, understand processes, explain letters and notices

     - Participate in events, workshops, and meetings - occasional evening and weekend hours

Required Qualifications

     - ASL Fluency and ability to communicate in written English

     - Degree or at least 2 years of related work/personal experience with Deaf adults

     - Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and achieve goals

     - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

     - Sensitivity to and awareness of issues affecting individuals and seniors with hearing loss

     - Working knowledge of assistive technology for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened adults

     - Working knowledge of Google Suite

Benefits:

     - Paid vacation time (12 days), sick time (10 days), and personal time (2 days) for first year; increases each year

     - Paid holidays (13 days) and a paid holiday break at end of December

     - Eligible for dental and health insurance on first day of employment (DEAF, Inc. pay 85%, employee pay 15%)
