Public Relations Specialist (Contract)
DEAF, Inc.’s American Sign Language (ASL) Program performs an important outreach function, addressing our mission to build bridges across communities. We have begun expanding our ASL program, offering classes at locations in businesses and organizations in the community as well as at DEAF, Inc. offices (in Allston, Lawrence,and New Bedford).
We seek someone with experience in marketing and public relations to stimulate interest in learning ASL and promote the program’s expansion by developing an achievable strategy and appropriate marketing/outreach materials.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of Deaf culture (or openness to learning), be comfortable working in a Deaf-centric environment, and have at least 2-3 years demonstrated success in marketing. This is an up to 15-hr/month contract position.
-- Develop successful marketing strategies and campaigns to increase registration for our regular ASL classes in Boston, Lawrence, and New Bedford
-- Promote special events, such as the ASL Program’s annual “Voices Off! an ASL Immersion,” special topic presentations and workshops developed by program staff, as well as regular classes in Boston, Lawrence, and New Bedford.
-- Create and implement a social media plan, schedule, and materials
-- Design and produce a program brochure and promotional marketing materials
-- Research and outreach business resources specific to Boston, Lawrence, and New Bedford
-- Excellent communication skills Excellent English writing for print and social media
-- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred. Open to learning ASL required. (Free ASL classes provided)
-- Understanding of different types of social media and ability to exploit them
-- Experienced with Adobe Flash, Final Cut Pro X or iMovie, and Publisher
