IL Health Specialist

Overview: The Independent Living (IL) Health Specialist is part of a team of IL Specialists that provide IL services to Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, or Late-Deafened individuals with varied communication methods and linguistic backgrounds. The IL Health Specialist primarily works with individuals living with chronic health conditions. Although based in Boston, the IL Health Specialist may work occasionally with individuals in other regions as needed.

Summary of Duties:

- Work 1:1 with consumers to accomplish health and independent living goals by creating individualized service plans, connecting consumers to other services as needed, and documenting progress towards goals

- Advocate for effective communication and access for consumers who work with other service providers

- Provide outreach and education as needed, including exhibits, workshops, and presentations.

- Coordinate occasional health & wellness workshops on topics of interest to consumers and create ASL-based vlogs on current health topics

Qualifications: Fluency in ASL and English strongly preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience working with Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, and Late-Deafened individuals preferred. Basic knowledge of common chronic health conditions preferred. Must have own car and be willing to travel.
