Quit Smoking:

Here are a few good reasons why YOU should quit
smoking!!
–      Cigarette smoke contains over 4,800 chemicals,
69 of which are known to cause cancer.
–      Every year in Massachusetts 8,230 people die from
smoking.
–      Every year in Massachusetts 1,000 people die from
second hand smoke.
–      Smoking is directly responsible for 87% of lung cancer cases and causes most cases of emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
–      If you quit smoking you will be able to breathe better, smell and taste more, your breath will not stink all the time and your hair and clothes will smell better and your teeth won’t be stained yellow.
–      You will live longer and will have less wrinkles.
–      You will have hundreds of dollars a year!
–      Your children and those around you will get sick less often. You will get sick less often too.
–      Your family will be less likely to get lung cancer or heart disease. You will be less likely to get lunch caner and heart disease too.
–      Your baby will be less likely to die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
–      Your house and car will smell better
–      You will have more energy
–      Your life will be better and more enjoyable! 

Why is it so Hard To Quit Smoking?
–      Quitting smoking is very hard because your body is
addicted to the nicotine that is in cigarettes.
–      Your body craves nicotine which makes quitting very hard.
–      Most people try to quit 3 or 4 times before they finally quit for good.
–      It is very difficult to quit alone, try to find a support team to help you quit.

How Do I Quit Smoking?
–      Quitting smoking is difficult! Congratulations on taking that first step!
–      If you want to quit smoking, you should tell your doctor right away.
–      Your doctor will help you quit smoking and will explain different medicines and patches to help you quit.
–      Before you attempt to quit, you should find a support team to help you and encourage you to quit. A support team could be a group of friends, coworkers, family, or anyone who will help you quit.
–      Avoid places where there is a lot of smoking. This may make you feel like smoking again.
–      Try to hang around friends who do not smoke.
–      Start to think of yourself as a non-smoker.
–      Remember all the wonderful benefits of not smoking!
–      Nicotine Patch- a sticky patch that goes on your arm. The patch gives your body small does of nicotine through your arm rather than smoking a cigarette. This helps make quitting a little easier.
–      Nicotine Gum- Gum you chew when you are feeling like you need a cigarette. The gum has a small amount of nicotine that helps calm your body down and makes it stop craving a cigarette.
–      Prescription Medicine- there are many medicines that can help make quitting easier. Talk to your doctor about what medicine is right for you.
–      Cold Turkey- The term for quitting smoking with no patches or medicine.
