Volunteers/ Non-paid Internships (Boston Office)
There are many different opportunities at D.E.A.F. Inc for you to volunteer. The experience and opportunity to be a part of this unique, language-rich organization that services the Deaf and Deaf-Blind community is beneficial to anyone who plans to work with either culture. (If you are volunteering for a class, please contact us early in the semester.) Below you will find a list of departments where you can volunteer as well as the requirements for volunteering at D.E.A.F. Inc. The most important requirements to have are an eagerness to learn and a desire to benefit others as well as yourself!!

- Independent Living
- Project HOPE
- Adult Education
- DBCAN

Some Possible Volunteer Opportunities:
- Tutoring English and Computer Literacy (Need to be signing for at
least one year)
- Helping for the Thanksgiving Event (A hall is rented for our consumers
in celebration of Thanksgiving; help would be needed to serve food, set-up,
make sure everyone is having a GREAT time, etc)
- Taking pictures at Adult Education Awards Night
- General office work (filing, copying, phone calls, tty calls, etc)
- And many more!
Requirements:
- A commitment of at least three (3) hours per week for three (3)
months but you can volunteer more than three (3) hours and longer than
three months.
- You must have taken ASL 1 or at least be taking ASL 1 to volunteer
- You need to fill out a background check (this can take up to 2 to 4 weeks so again, if you need to volunteer for class requirements, contact us early in the semester).
