Independent Living Specialist, Outreach Specialist (Full-time temporary - Boston Region)
Goal: Provides Outreach services to Deaf, Late Deafened and Hard of Hearing Individuals and the Hearing community regarding the Independent Living programs and services in the greater Boston area.
Duties: Organizes and maintains outreach log
* Contacts community agencies and providers within the service area (housing providers, minority community centers, elder providers, medical providers, etc) to provide outreach events and information
* Communicates regularly and directly with supervisor regarding progress and problems encountered
* Develops written reports on outreach activities, demographics and results of outreach on regular basis
* Provides appropriate referrals for contacts initiated during outreach
* Provides table exhibits, information on assistive technology and funding options, and explanation of services
* Provides Community Outreach and Training
* Serve occasional evening and weekend hours as needed to provide outreach events
* Performs other duties as assigned
Supervision: This position reports to the Director of Independent Living Services.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in the area of deafness, human services, or a related field and/or two years related experience with Hard of Hearing/ Late Deaf adults. Fluency in ASL (preferred) but not required. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to perform effectively as part of a team. Sensitivity to and awareness of Deafness issues. Experiential involvement with the Hard of Hearing and Late Deaf community.
