JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

Senior IL Outreach Specialist (Part-time) (Attleboro, 4.5 hr/wk)

Availability: Immediate opening.  Applications accepted until position is filled.  

DUTIES:   Provides Outreach services to Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened Seniors, family, friends and senior service providers in the City of Boston.  Responsibilities include information and referral, Outreach exhibits, awareness training, home assistive technology and safety evaluations, and technical assistance to elder Boston consumers and the general Boston public.  Coordinates Senior IL outreach activities.

  • Manages a caseload Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened Senior IL consumers
  • Communicates regularly and directly with supervisor regarding progress and problems encountered with consumers
  • Develops written individual service plan for consumers delineating consumer needs including but not limited to: technological, safety, Independent Living, skills training, advocacy, peer counseling, health and safety, and coordinates implementation and review of the plan in a timely manner
  • Develops written reports on elder consumer progress as needed, maintains up to date consumer files, and provides monthly data reports on all activities
  • Completes applications for Title 7B Equipment Program for Senior IL consumers as needed
  • Provides Community exhibits, outreach, and training to all local Boston neighborhoods.
  • Serve occasional evening and weekend hours as needed to meet needs of Elder consumers and family
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION:   Reports to the Southeast (Taunton) Regional Director of Independent Living Services

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree in the area of deafness, human services, or related field or related personal /work experience with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late Deafened elders.  Fluency in ASL or the ability to become fluent.  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to perform effectively as part of a team.  Sensitivity to and awareness of Deaf issues.  Sensitivity to and awareness to Elder issues. Experiential involvement with the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and/or Late Deafened community.
